For some reason, I just love to go fishing. Not just any kind of
fishing, but trout fishing in clear mountain streams or else ocean fishing,
preferably down Mexico way where the water is warm, the fish are large and
tasty, the tortillas and limes are so good, etc...
I have countless fishing photos and stories (even some real ones!!).
If you're a fisherperson, please let me know and we can swap a story or two.

Summer 2011, on a trip to Cedros Island, halfway down Baja California, about 200-300 miles south of Ensenada. 32-pound Yellowtail, the largest one yet!
Picture taken with my youngest son, Gavin, 11 at the time. |

Off a kayak in Mexico, this 58 pound Roosterfish pulled
me around for over two hours! Seriously! Then another hour to paddle
with him back to the beach so that people would believe me. He pulled
me WAY out to sea. We were real close to two humpback whales. I was hoping there were
no big, hungry sharks around. |

While sailing on a friend's boat near Manzanillo, I tossed out a large
lure. I was bit almost immediately and 2 1/2 hours later this beauty decided to join us for dinner! The had sailed all the way from San Diego and only caught bonito. I said, "er.... let's try a different lure."
ps.. I would have loved to release the fish, but it was dead by the time it was landed. And it was delicious! also... I had no filet knife, and I was just sailing..... and I found a guy fishing for little fish in the harbor, and I asked if he had a knife. He said "Si". I said he could have half of a fish if he filetted it. His eyes went HUGE when he saw the fish. I'm sure he went home to a happy family that evening!

First day of winter, 2009, yep, Dec. 21. What an awesome day. I was back at the beach by 8:30 am and I'm sure I could have caught another, but no need to be greedy. |

Several years ago , right off La Jolla when all the squid were
in the water. 20 pound White Sea Bass off my kayak. Lots of fish tacos!!

A good day at the Coronado Islands, right off of San Diego.
Plenty of fresh sashimi that day. With my oldest boy, Eli (when he was so little!).

Down in Mazatlan the birds were diving like crazy right off the beach chasing
the little bait fish. Well.... a couple of casts later right where the
birds were telling me the fish were.... a nice one!! Excellent "Al mojo de ajo"!
Garlic and butter and a special Margarita! |
